Who has permission – perceived or real – to gather, to dwell, to occupy, to be visible in buildings, streets, neighbourhoods, the city?

Curator Kate Goodwin with architect Qianyi Lim take inspiration from PHIVE, Parramatta’s civic and cultural hub designed by Manuelle Gautrand in partnership with Lacoste + Stevenson and DesignInc, to explore the relationship of architecture, community and equitable environments through a program of walks, talks and site-specific performances.

Architects and local creatives will lead tours of PHIVE and the surrounding area, providing insights into its current use and future possibilities. The day includes a site-specific performance in PHIVE and two complementary panels involving architects, planners, policy makers, community activists and creative practitioners exploring how the built environment shapes, and is shaped by, communities.

Architecture Amplified is a forum for an inclusive, inspiring and critical examination of architecture and society today. It uses inventive curatorial formats that amplify the architectural context in which events are hosted. It celebrates architects as designers, thought-leaders, advocates, activists, writers, researchers and creative producers, broadening how, where and when architectural knowledge is applied. Conceived by Kate Goodwin, Olivia Hyde and Qianyi Lim, during their tenure as professors of practice (architecture) at the University of Sydney (2022–2023).
