Assistant Curator

We’re looking for two assistant curators with experience in a museum or equivalent to join the Collection Curatorial team and be part of Powerhouse's transformational renewal. One role sits within the applied sciences team, and the ideal candidate will have knowledge of one or more of the following areas - transport, health and medicine, science, engineering or technology. The other role sits within the applied arts team and requires knowledge or experience of one or more of the following areas - design, decorative arts, fashion, social history, music, performance or visual communication. As Assistant Curator, you will provide support to the Collection Curatorial team across a range of projects in a dynamic and collaborative environment.

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Lead Preparator to play a key role in the successful delivery of exhibitions and programs across our diverse sites. This hands-on leadership role supports Production Managers in planning and delivering high-quality museum experiences, while supervising staff, contractors, and workshop operations. This position is responsible for construction our Exhibition components such as furniture, walls and other structures, coordinating staff and resources within the Production Workshop, providing leadership and technical expertise across the disciplines of Workshop. Working closely with Production Managers, the Lead Preparator ensures the coordination of the construction, fabrication, and installation of exhibitions displays which meet international museum standards while upholding best practices in conservation and workplace health and safety. The Lead Preparator will bring strong experience in carpentry or cabinet making, with experience in other areas highly valued (for the temporary full time role). Talent Pools for similar future roles in metal work or boiler making, painting, and mountmaking may arise over the next 18 months (ongoing or temporary)

The Head of Climate Action and Sustainability, is responsible for leading the ongoing development, delivery of the Powerhouse’s Climate Action Plan and initiatives. In this hands-on role, you will collaborate with teams across the organisation to design and deliver programs and initiatives to improve the museum’s social and environmental performance, manage environmental risk and compliance and develop plans to enhance the organisation's resilience to climate change impacts. This role is full time in the office and will require work across all Powerhouse sites.

Publishing Volunteer

As a Publishing Volunteer, you will support the book’s editors in researching, fact checking, copywriting and copyediting the biographical information for 100 of Australia’s top chefs and food producers. This is a great opportunity to gain experience in both publishing and museum practices. You will be working closely with the Publishing team and have some collaboration with members of the Registration and Curatorial team.
