Visions for our cities are usually realised in drawings long before the built environment is transformed. This workshop gives participants an opportunity to collaborate with artists and architects to imagine cities that are built to create meaningful relationships between people, environment and stories.

In this experiential workshop Chris Fox and Yuxiao Wang from Studio Chris Fox share their innovative processes which embed fluidity in technical design and artistic thinking.

Speakers

Chris Fox is a senior lecturer in art processes and architecture at the University of Sydney School of Architecture, Design and Planning. He has more than 25 years’ experience practicing as an artist and academic in the built environment, navigating the complex constraints of the public domain to design and deliver landmark interventions. Fox founded the multi-disciplinary practice Studio Chris Fox with the aim of transforming the built environment, bridging the disciplines of art, architecture and engineering. His studio uses innovative computational systems to create structures that push the boundaries of what seems physically possible, while telling meaningful stories of place and people through time. He is passionate about transforming our cities, towns and landscapes through artful thinking and collaboration. Studio Chris Fox is part of the First Nations-led AKIN team comprising Yerrabingin, Architectus, Jacob Nash Studio and Flying Fish Blue that recently won the design competition for Barangaroo Harbour Park.

Yuxiao Wang joined Studio Chris Fox in 2019 and works across projects from design to delivery. Her favourite times are spent in a hard hat and hi-viz vest working alongside builders and fabricators to bring intricate geometries to life by translating complex computational design into practical fabrication and building methodology. Wang earned two Masters degrees – Master of Architecture and Master of Interaction Design and Electronic Arts degrees – to bridge her expertise across built environment and creative computational design.
