A mini market plus meet-and-greet with some of Sydney's sustainable designers. Nonna’s Grocer, a family run concept store, will help marketgoers create candles in recycled clam shells. Plastic waste entrepreneurs Defy Design will reveal their process for designing with recycled plastic. Visitors wishing to have their clothing revived can visit Layers of a Lune for embroidered upcycling; and browse racks of pre-loved clothing curated by the team behind Reunion (formerly SWOP). Goods from each of the designers will be available to buy.

Exhibitors

Defy Design is a Sydney-based company that designs and manufactures impactful products made from plastic destined for landfill. Its passionate team creatives are dedicated to improving the environment through action, rather than words. Defy’s design-led approach to solving complex problems places the company at the forefront of the movement to close the loop of plastic waste streams in Australia.

Layers of a Lune isJessica Martin, a 24-year-old multidisciplinary artist living, studying and working on Dharawal Land. Her art practice is a reflection upon her sense of self, processing from head and heart into a tangible textural form through a range of mediums including free motion embroidery, collage and poetry.

Nonna’s Grocer is a family-run concept store founded by Wollongong-based Madeleine Hoy and co-owned with her sister Isabel Hoy. The company explores beauty and craftsmanship through object design and is renowned for its environmentally conscious fruit and vegetable candles which were inspired by a fruit shop owned by the sisters’ great grandparents.

Reunion was founded by Bethany Wicks and Brigid Gordon as SWOP Clothing Exchange in 2013. Taking inspiration from a trip to New York, Wicks and Gordon opened the store to pursue a love of vintage and preloved clothing. The store provides a space to buy, sell and trade sustainably sourced vintage and second-hand clothing.
