Atmospheric Memory: Culture and Innovation with Jose Luis de Vincente
Join a behind-the-scenes tour of Atmospheric Memory with international director and curator José Luis de Vicente. De Vicente will share stories of how the exhibition was conceived and discuss the integration of culture, innovation and futurism within the project.
Rafael Lozano-Hemmer’s breathtaking immersive art environment is inspired by computing pioneer Charles Babbage's concept of air containing a 'vast library' of every word ever spoken. This exhilarating show uses cutting-edge technologies and theatrical effects to create atmospheres filled with voices and history. Touch the world's first 3D-printed speech bubble, see your voice travel in a ripple tank, walk through clouds of text and interact with virtual environments in a colossal 360-degree projection chamber.
Curator
José Luis de Vicente is a cultural researcher and curator. Director of Museum del Disseny, Barcelona's Museum of Design, his work investigates the impacts of technological and cultural innovation through artifacts, systems and narratives. His projects create contexts for collaboration and dialogue between artists, designers, architects, technologists, scientists, activists and communities. He was the founder and Artistic Director of Sónar+D, the arts and ideas program of the acclaimed Sónar Festival in Barcelona; co-founder of Model, the Barcelona Architectures Festival; and curator of public art and light festival LlumBCN. He has curated multiple exhibitions such as Big Bang Data and After the End of the World (both at CCCB), Curiosidad Radical: in the Buckminster Fuller Orbit (Espacio Fundación Telefónica / ArtScience Museum Singapore) and others.
