‘I am absolutely delighted to see the Kitchen Garden Program at Powerhouse Parramatta. For more than twenty years, our vision has been to give every child in Australia the confidence, skills and joy that comes from growing, harvesting, preparing and sharing fresh, delicious food. This innovative partnership allows us to extend that opportunity to thousands more young people each year, in one of the most dynamic and culturally rich regions in Australia.’

Powerhouse Parramatta and the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation will collaborate to deliver a distinctive learning program that will connect with up to 10,000 young people each year. The program will be based on the Foundation’s internationally recognised food education program, currently delivered to children and young people in over 1,000 schools across Australia. The program has been proven to promote positive relationships with fresh, delicious food, and supports the development of health, wellbeing, learning and sustainability competencies.

Launching with the opening of Powerhouse Parramatta in late 2026, the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program will be delivered by Powerhouse through the Lang Walker Family Academy.

The Powerhouse Rooftop Garden and Vitocco Family Kitchen will be activated as unique, purpose-designed spaces for hands-on practical learning, enabling students participating in the program to engage directly with food, culture and sustainability. The program will foster a deeper understanding of food systems, culinary traditions and sustainable living among the next generation of students in Western Sydney and New South Wales.

‘The Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program at Powerhouse Parramatta will offer students a truly unique learning environment — a place where food, culture, sustainability and creativity come together in the most inspiring way. I look forward to seeing young people from across Western Sydney discover the pleasures of real food, build essential life skills, and develop meaningful connections to the environment and to one another.’

The Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation, established in 2004 by renowned cook and author Stephanie Alexander AO. The Foundation is dedicated to delivering enjoyable, inclusive, and practical food education for children and young people across Australia through their Kitchen Garden Program and community initiatives.

Powerhouse Parramatta, opening 2026, is one of the world’s most significant new museum projects. As the first NSW State Cultural Institution to be based in Western Sydney, Powerhouse Parramatta will be a transformational cultural precinct and the largest museum in NSW attracting 2 million visitors a year.

The Lang Walker Family Academy, established in 2021 thanks to the generosity of the Walker Family Foundation, will offer world-class immersive STEM education experiences, industry engagement and overnight stays at Powerhouse Parramatta.

‘This new partnership with the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation will embed impactful and special experiences for young people across Western Sydney and regional NSW. It will add a new dimension to the Lang Walker Academy and contribute to our community’s understanding of food and its ecologies for many generations to come.’
