Volunteers work across the Powerhouse, from audience engagement to collection and curatorial research as well as supporting programs. The Volunteer Program offers flexible roles and training, and our volunteer team contribute their time and knowledge across Powerhouse Parramatta, Castle Hill, Ultimo and Sydney Observatory.
Powerhouse Internships offer hands-on, project-based experience for students and emerging professionals.

Powerhouse Collection
Our Secondary Student Placement Program provides high school students with a glimpse into the world of museums and cultural institutions, fulfilling work experience requirements for Years 10, 11, and 12. Students gain insights into operational aspects, including museum practices, education programs, and visitor services. These practical learning opportunities complement classroom education, supporting students' personal development and professional skills as they prepare to make career decisions. Work Experience is offered at Sydney Observatory, Powerhouse Ultimo and Powerhouse Castle Hill, during NSW School Holidays.

Powerhouse Program
The Powerhouse Internship Program offers undergraduate and postgraduate students the opportunity to gain hands-on experience within a leading cultural institution. Since 1988, the program has supported students to develop practical skills, industry knowledge, and professional networks, with many former interns going on to careers in the museum, arts, and cultural sectors. Internships are designed to be mutually beneficial. With guidance from Powerhouse staff, interns contribute to meaningful projects and programs while gaining real-world experience in a dynamic museum environment. The program welcomes students from a wide range of academic backgrounds and values strong supervisory relationships as central to professional growth.
